Athlete of the Month – John Scanlon
Congrats to our friend and Athlete of the Month, John Scanlon.
What have you accomplished in your life that you’re most proud of?
Raising three beautiful daughters, but they make it easy.
If you could take 3 months off and do whatever you wanted, what would that time look like?
An RV trip around the country….with many guest passes to gyms in every state.
How did you feel before you found TrAk?
Good but stagnant; and not balanced in terms of body composition.
How do you feel now?
Stronger from head to toe.
How has TrAk changed your everyday life?
My lower back has never felt better. And meeting great people.
Goals…personal, professional, family?
Educate my daughters and see them get married, to travel (in my RV), and bug them once they have families of their own. Pretty simple.
If you were in a band what existing band/group do you see yourself in?
The band I was in before we got too busy! The Mourning After. You’ve probably heard of us. We’ll be back for a reunion tour.
Best place to travel that you’ve ever been?
British Virgin islands on a Catamaran for 5 days.
What do your kids remind you that’s ok to do?
Listen to Justin Timberlake.
What personal failure has helped lead to your ultimate success?
I needed to stop drinking 8 years ago; Life has improved exponentially since.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen in the gym?
People vaping. (Not at Trak). I mean really.
What three people [living or dead] would you go camping with next weekend?
Elvis, Jerry Garcia and my late mother — to apologize for being such a rotten teenager.
Which sport/activity would you love to do, but are afraid to?
Skydiving.
Funniest things you’ve seen your kid do?
Type a million characters on the phone without even looking at it.
Favorite movie?
Ace Venture — Pet Detective. Either one. I know. It’s odd.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Keep your powder dry” — from my legend, Tim Scanlon
At what age were you in the best shape of your life?
49 (now)
Words to live by or favorite quote?
“Only dead fish go with the flow”
What adventure do you plan to have in the future?
Throwing away my suits, ties, and alarm clock; hitting the road in an RV.
Favorite book and why?
The story of Lewis and Clark. The thought of exploring the untamed west and all the danger that came with it is fascinating.
Something interesting we don’t know about you?
I love to eat. And not all good stuff. More than I should. Ok, often really.
What do you like most about being apart of the TrAk Family?
Feeding off the energy of others who work so hard and are pushing themselves; it pushes me to work harder.
Biggest accomplishment at the gym?
Finally squatting and deadlifting, which I always avoided because of my back.
