February AOMs – John & Becca Krajewski

This is an unprecedented choice.

Never before have we had two members of our TrAk Family win the famed Athlete of the Month award in the same month.

Well, then it’s fitting that these two really are family.

This father/daughter combo has to be as consistent as anyone, coming to the gym together every day at 6 AM over the past 6+ months. The changes have been amazing, with the daughter losing 16 POUNDS of fat while gaining 5 pounds of muscle.

But that’s not why they won. They truly enjoy each other’s company. They push each other every day and hold each other accountable. And they really just have an incredible relationship.

We give you John and Becca Krajewski, the TrAk Athletics February 2017 Athletes of the Month.

John Krajewski

What have you accomplished in your life that you’re most proud of?

Raising three daughters to become accomplished young women.

If you could take 3 months off and do whatever you wanted, what would that time look like?

I would travel the world.

If you were in a band what existing band/group do you see yourself in?

I am not much of a music guy so not sure.

Favorite place to travel to?

Kiawah Island; it’s my favorite place

What do your kids remind you that it’s OK to do?

Hang out with them

What personal failure has helped lead to your ultimate success?

I wasn’t very good at working at an automobile plant; this drove me to be the first in my family to go to college.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen in the gym?

People throwing up from trying so hard.

What three people [living or dead] would you go camping with next weekend?

My Dad who died over 30 years ago. We used to camp together. Also my 3 daughters — when they were little, we camped at Camp Y-Noah with Indian Princesses. They are still my little princesses.

Which sport/activity would you love to do, but are afraid to?

Automobile racing; I am a terrible driver.

Favorite movie?

Rudy (because he never quit)

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

It doesn’t matter if you are running fast if you are running in the wrong direction!

At what age were you in the best shape of your life?

When I was in high school in Buffalo, playing hockey.

Goals … personal, professional, family?

Spend as much time with my family as I can.

Words to live by or favorite quote?

Comparison is the thief of joy.

What adventure do you plan to have in the future?

I am going to Poland and Hungary this year.

Favorite book and why?

“The Grapes of Wrath” because it makes me sound well-read.

Something interesting we don’t know about you?

Actually, three come to mind: 1. I am a first generation American; 2. My mother was in a concentration camp and lost her whole family in the Holocaust; 3. Four years ago I found myself in the ER with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I was overweight and basically a physical wreck. I decided to make a change.

What do you like most about being a part of the TrAk Family?

When I go to TRAK I feel like the luckiest man in the world. I get to spend time with my daughter while making myself healthy; this is a slice of life I will never have again because she will be moving to Chicago this summer to start her new job.

Biggest accomplishment at the gym?

Bench pressing; I had never done this before in my life.

It’s very admirable to see a father-daughter combo … Could you have imagined this scenario a year ago?

No; it motivates me every day now.

What are three words you would use to describe Becca?

Loving, determined, and feisty

Becca Krajewski

How did your dad rope you into coming to TrAk?

He didn’t rope me into it … my57-year-oldd dad was in better shape than I was! I looked in the mirror and decided it was time. I graduated from Dayton in May and I swear I said to myself about 20 times a year since freshman year, “I’ll start tomorrow.” And obviously, I never started.

If you could take 3 months to do whatever you wanted, what would that time look like?

Beach, wine, animals, and family

What adventure do you plan to have in the future?

An exciting career as an accountant; it doesn’t get better than that! I also want to plan a fun Euro-trip with some friends.

If you were in a band what existing band/group do you see yourself in?

I’d replace Zayn in One Direction

Favorite place to travel to?

I absolutely loved Greece, but a favorite of mine is Kiawah Island.

Where is life taking you next (like this summer!)?

I’ve accepted a job with EY in Chicago. I’ll be moving sometime in June. But home will always be Akron and whenever I’m home, TrAk will be my first stop! Well, actually, it’ll be my second stop. First I’ll go to Swenson’s and get a double cheeseburger and THEN I’ll go to TrAk.

What life events have you had so far that have steered you to your current path?

I saw where all my family went and decided to stay away. They’re all lawyers, so I decided we could use an accountant in the family. (Dad says he’s an accountant and I mean, he is, but he doesn’t practice accounting. So I’ll be the only practicing accountant)

What three people [living or dead] would you go camping with next weekend?

Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and a big, hungry bear. I obviously wouldn’t attend the camping. (No offense)

Who are three people you look up to?

My mother, my father, and Michelle Obama

Favorite movie?

Rocky & Rocky IV

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

From my Mom: “Life isn’t fair.” Most of you don’t know my mom because she doesn’t come to TrAk; she’s not a group workout person. She actually could be, but she commutes to her job in Seattle every week so that could also be why she doesn’t come. She’s been such a huge part of this entire experience and has been so encouraging through this entire journey. ILY MOM!

Words to live by or favorite quote?

“Be in love with your life. Every minute of it.” – Jack Kerouac

Something interesting we don’t know about you?

I’m the only non-lawyer in my family! Also, I used to go to Swenson’s like twice a week and since I started at TrAk in late August, I haven’t had a bite of a burger. (This is HUGE)

What do you like most about being a part of the TrAk Family?

Camaraderie and encouragement. I also absolutely love spending time with my dad at the gym. It’s such a great father-daughter bonding experience to wake up at 5:30 and go to the gym every day. He’s been so supportive and helped me through this entire experience. (I’m packing him up and taking him with me to Chicago when I move … sorry TrAk!)

Biggest accomplishment at the gym?

Finishing my first day even though I vomited after the warmup. I learned from the best at Dayton … Puke & Rally! Another accomplishment took me a little while but after about two months at TrAk, I could keep up with my dad in all the cardio. I’m faster than him now 😉

What are three words you would use to describe your dad?

Supportive, dramatic (JK, Dad, don’t get mad at me), and thoughtful. He’s the absolute best!
