Bob Clark AOM

April AOM – Bob Clark

It’s already that time.

This month we’d like to recognize a guy that we weren’t sure would ever make it into the gym.

He is someone that we knew would do well but took some time to convince.

Well … he made it in and the rest is history.

He’s been committed and hard-working since his first day, and the progress he’s made has been fantastic. He uses his fitness outside the gym and on the golf course, which is just how we like it.

This guy is special to us, though, for the intangibles he brings. He makes every 7 am class more fun, especially to coach. Just a great person to have in our TrAk Fam.

TrAk Fam, we give you the March 2017 Athlete of the Month, Bob Clark.

What have you accomplished in your life that you’re most proud of?

I grew up in Akron, so I’m pretty proud that my wife and I are able to raise our kids here, too. Life full circle.

If you could take 3 months off and do whatever you wanted, what would that time look like?

Take a memorable family trip, visit out-of-town friends I don’t see very often, sleep in, play some golf and take time to really relax and enjoy the break.

If you were in a band, what existing band/group do you see yourself in?

Kings of Leon.

Favorite place to travel to?

To me, travelling is all about the people you’re with. One of my favorite trips was going to Scotland with my dad, brother, and brother-in-law.

What do your kids remind you that it’s OK to do?

You don’t always have to do things ‘by the book’ and it’s OK to make mistakes.

What personal failure has helped lead to your ultimate success?

I think on some level I fail frequently. With my kids, my wife, with work, or with friends. It can be difficult to juggle it all but I think there are a lot of opportunities for growth within that failure.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen in the gym?

Movember 2016 — James knows what I’m talking about.

What three people [living or dead] would you go camping with next weekend?

My wife and kids are an obvious answer but camping with a group like Will Farrell, Bill Murray, and Chris Farley would keep the fireside chat entertaining.

Which sport/activity would you love to do, but are afraid to?

I would love to try a cycling race or triathlon.

Funniest things you’ve seen your kids do?

There are a lot to choose from but right now they like to spontaneously become dogs. All the way. Crawling around on their hands and knees and only responding to mom and dad with ‘woof, woof.’

Favorite movie?

Big Lebowski, Wedding Crashers, Silence of the Lambs, Back to the Future, Caddyshack

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Live for the story.

At what age were you in the best shape of your life?

Right now.

Goals … personal, professional, family?

I think all three are tied together. My goal is to pair success with happiness.

Words to live by or favorite quote?

James put this up once and it really stuck with me: ‘Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.’

What adventure do you plan to have in the future?

Raising my two kids will undoubtedly be an adventure for my wife and I, but one day I’d love to take my family on an unforgettable trip to someplace like Japan or Australia.

Favorite book and why?

Regretfully, I don’t read many books, but I enjoy non-fiction. I have been making my way through Bruce Springsteen’s memoir … very slowly.

Something interesting we don’t know about you?

I love music and going to live shows. I have seen Pearl Jam 14 times.

What do you like most about being a part of the TrAk Family?

I was never into group exercise before TrAk. I was probably even a little skeptical. Now I think it’s what keeps me here. There is so much motivation that comes from the combined energy and support of the coaches and members.

Biggest accomplishment at the gym?

Walking in the door the first time … and then coming back!
